When my wife initiated divorce proceedings, she engaged an ‘old school’ solicitor who took an adversarial approach and only provided the bare minimum of information when it came to disclosure.
It became obvious from the outset that we were going to have a long, acrimonious and expensive battle, with the solicitors being the only winners.
Thankfully, Carol at Divorce Negotiator showed us that there was a much better way of doing this, and when my wife and I finally discussed things together after almost a year of not speaking, it turned out that she was just as stressed out with the situation as I was.
So, rather than continuing a ‘tit for tat’ battle, we actually discussed things and negotiated, which I thought was the object of the exercise in the first place! We resolved everything and are now on very good terms. Carol’s great strength is that she ‘cuts to the chase’ straight away and makes you realise how simple and straightforward the process can be once you start properly talking to each other rather than putting yourself at the mercy of solicitors.
If I can find a real positive from this experience, it would be to try and persuade couples contemplating divorce to talk to Divorce Negotiator at the earliest opportunity because, believe me, there is a much easier and less costly way of doing this than the old-fashioned ‘divorce wars’. I thought I was quite a switched-on person, but this experience has really opened my eyes to how antiquated and unnecessary the ‘traditional’ system is, especially when there is a much more civilised alternative provided by Divorce Negotiator.
