It is a little known fact that people can be partially or fully exempt from divorce court fees.
Most couples going through a divorce are aware there is full exemption for those on benefits and a very low income, but few are aware there is a partial exemption for those earning above £1085 per month. The upper limit of income depends on the number of dependent child under the age of 19 you have.
So for an example, someone earning £2600 per month with 3 children aged 5, 7 and 9 will not have to pay the full £550 court fee, but a reduced fee of £390, saving £160.

A person in a new relationship with 4 children under the age of 19, can have a household income of up to £3325 per month before having to pay court fees.
If you are in a new relationship, then you need to take the total household income when calculating the court fee. The allowance does go up when in a relationship too.
