Quick divorce v Quickie divorce
I had a query from a client the other day, wanting to know what the difference was between Divorce Negotiator and the low rate quick divorce online services.
What I explained was that we are not like these ‘do it yourself’ services that are offered online for very low rates. They simply charge you for providing some forms that are then up to you to complete. But what you may not know is that these forms are often available to download from the government website for free.
It is not difficult to get a divorce, you simply complete the necessary forms correctly and send them to the court, and your divorce will be processed. If you are comfortable with this process, then the online service is a great service for you. But remember, despite seeming straight forward it is wise to consult a divorce specialist when you have completed your petition forms before sending them to court to be processed. 4 out of 10 divorce petitions contain errors and are returned by courts – this can prolong your divorce process from the word go. Here are the top 10 common reasons for returned applications.
1. No fee enclosed
2. Details of marriage, incorrect
3. Jurisdiction page, incomplete and incorrect
4. Other proceedings or arrangements, incomplete
5. The facts
6. Statement of case, insufficient detail or incomplete
7. No marriage certificate received
8. No certificate of reconciliation received from solicitor
9. No fee remission contribution received
10. Service details
Also remember the low online fees cover the divorce only – by ‘divorce only’ I mean it simply ends the marriage. It does not take care of the cost of sorting out financial settlements or any child care arrangements that need to be made. It is often these two issues that end up in court and escalate the time and cost of your divorce.
What we say is – we can help you with the divorce paperwork and/or guide you on how to fill in the forms but where you are likely to need help is to negotiate your settlement in the most cost-effective and amicable way possible – this is something you will not get through an online service for as little as £37. However, it need not cost the earth either. We can help you to avoid lengthy and costly court battles and instead deal with your finances and child arrangements efficiently and cost effectively.
If you are still unsure, give us a call and we will be happy to go through the details of your case and advise how we can best help you specifically.
